The 2013 academic scholarship applicant pool was the largest and most impressive group that the scholarship chairman can remember. The Committee evaluated 35 academic scholarship applications and selected 21 scholarship recipients. The academic scholarship recipients had an average GPA of 3.89 and an average ACT score of 29.8, the highest ever. Seven leadership scholarship applications were reviewed and the four leadership scholarship recipients demonstrated outstanding leadership in JROTC and in their school and community while maintaining an excellent academic record.
Total Scholarships – 26 – total value = $33,000
All scholarship recipients have been notified and invited to the Chapter’s June 15th Scholarship Dinner where they will receive their scholarship check. Non-selected applicants were also notified by letter. The Scholarship Committee was very impressed with the quality of all the applicants this year. They are an outstanding group of young Americans that will be future leaders of our nation and the committee wishes them well as they pursue their academic and career goals.
The Ark-La-Tex chapter’s outstanding scholarship program is only possible due to the generosity of chapter members who give a little extra and by chapter members and others who sponsor memorial or special designated scholarships. For these scholarships the chapter provides matching funds.
This year’s scholarship recipients are truly an outstanding group of young Americans who have the potential to be the future “movers and shakers” of our nation. Ark-La-Tex chapter members should be very proud of our scholarship program that recognizes this very impressive group that will begin college this fall in universities across the nation.
